Transformation

Updated: May 17, 2023

Genuine spiritual transformation refers to a profound and lasting shift in a person’s beliefs, values, attitudes, and behaviors that leads to a deepening of their spiritual awareness, connection, and growth.

This type of transformation is characterized by a shift in perspective, a deepening of empathy and compassion, and an increased sense of purpose and meaning in life.

It often involves a process of self-exploration, reflection, and inquiry that leads to greater self-awareness and a deeper understanding of one’s place in the world. It involves confession, submission, and reaching toward our Maker.

Spiritual transformation can also involve a process of letting go of limiting beliefs and attachments and cultivating virtues such as gratitude, forgiveness, love, and peace.

Strengthening the Soul of Your Leadership - Seeking God in the Crucible of Ministry by Ruth Haley Barton explores spiritual practices to ensure your soul gets the nourishment it needs to forge and maintain a life-giving connection with God thereby impacting those you lead.

While exploring the leadership of Moses, Barton looks at Moses’s sense of identity and applies it to her reader. I invite you to prayerfully consider the following questions on your journey of transformation:

In what way am I protecting myself and trying to provide safety for myself (versus trusting God)?

What behaviors or patterns are INCONGRUENT with the person God is calling me to be?

Holding on to my self-protective patterns is a manifestation of my unwillingness to surrender myself to God for the journey that is ahead.

Can I sense a desire that is greater than my desire to be safe? A deeper longing for the Lord?

What part of my own:

History?

Personality?

Heritage?

Past?

Present?

Come up for me when I remember my behaviors and patterns?

· Let it be what it is.

· Experience God’s unconditional love for me and everything that has made me who I am.

· Invite God to help me start to see and name the experiences that have shaped me.

What are the patterns underneath the behaviors and situations that disturb me right now?

Where am I not fully surrendered to God?

Where am I not free?

Where am I hindered in my spiritual journey?

I invite you, God, to guide and illuminate the areas that are important for me to see and name at this time. I am at peace as You work over my lifetime

to accomplish Your Good Will in me and through me.

“O God, gather me

To be with You

As You are with me.

Keep me in touch with myself,

With my needs,

My anxieties,

My angers,

My pains,

My corruptions,

That I may claim them as my own

Rather than blame them on someone else.

O Lord, deepen my wounds to wisdom;

Shape my weaknesses into compassion;

Gentle my envy into enjoyment;

My fear into trust,

My guilt into honesty.

O God, gather me.

To be with You as You are with me.” (quote: Ted Loder, Guerrillas of Grace)

Life coaching can be a powerful tool for personal growth and development and can provide the guidance and support needed to grow and embrace God's transforming grace toward a meaningful and fulfilling life.
